About the Speaker

Christian Science Practitioner and Lecturer Christine Driessen

Christine Driessen, C.S.B.

Christine Driessen is a professional practitioner, lecturer and Teacher of the scientific system of healing called Christian Science, which is explained by Mary Baker Eddy in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

Christine began her public practice of spiritual healing in 1969 at the same time she was pursuing a Master’s Degree in French, teaching at Indiana University, and developing a career as a harpist and a dancer.

At the fall of Saigon during the Vietnam War, Christine was asked to serve as Director of the Indo-Chinese Refugee Legal Assistance Program for HEW (Dept. of Health, Education and Welfare) and the ABA (American Bar Association). After receiving her Juris Doctorate, she entered private law practice specializing in criminal, juvenile and domestic law. She developed and directed a comprehensive rehabilitation program as an alternative to prison for women offenders and their children, which included counseling for addiction and domestic violence. She also served as Head Law Librarian for a law firm specializing in hospital law.

In 1993, she took a position as an attorney with the Committee on Publication, Legal and Legislative Division, at The First Church of Christ, Scientist, advancing issues related to spiritual healing. In this position, she lobbied in Washington, D.C., working on a Medicare bill and the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act and was asked to speak at the National Conference of Women Legislators about the care of children.

In 1994 she gave up her work as an attorney to serve as Manager of Sunday Schools and Youth Activities and Superintendent of The Mother Church Sunday School for four years, entering the full-time practice of Christian Science in 1996 and becoming a Teacher in 2003. At the same time she was asked to serve as Manager of the international Christian Science Board of Lectureship.

Since 2003 she has spent time in Africa each year working with the churches in many African countries, as well as training African lecturers to lecture throughout Africa. Although Christine is no longer a practicing attorney, she says, “I still defend the right of every patient to have freedom, health and justice, only in a higher court—the court of Spirit!

Christine has lectured on spiritual healing at:

  • Harvard Medical School
  • Tufts University Medical School
  • Boston Medical Center

Welcome

The Church of Christ, Scientist, founded by Mary Baker Eddy in 1879, was “designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master [Christ Jesus], which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.” – Manual of The Mother Church

This church is a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.

He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. – Christ Jesus
